উজবেকিস্তানে চিত্রগল্প | CHITROGOLPO OF UZBEKISTAN

In my childhood, I have read about the ‘Silk Route’ many times. In Islamic architecture, there is the city of ‘Samarkand’ or the birthplace of Imam Bukhari, the city of ‘Bukhara.’ This city has witnessed the rise and fall of Alexander, Genghis Khan, Timur, the Soviet Union, and many other empires. We were fortunate to visit the country in Central Asia, where there was a 2,750-year-old city. We were accompanied by the newlywed couple, Sadia & Salman, whose wedding ceremony we had Captured. Unfortunately, Abhijit Da was absent this time. I have arranged the photos a little differently this time. I am trying to introduce you to the places through the photos and share some words with you. I have seen more with my own eyes and taken fewer photos. Nevertheless, here’s a photo story for today.

The most talked-about city in Uzbekistan is Samarqand/Samarkand. Despite being 2,750 years old, signs of human habitation dating back 40,000 years have been found in this city. Samarqand has witnessed the rise & fall of many empires in human civilization. However, duringthe Muslim empire, it gained its architectural splendor. This photo depicts one of the iconic structures of Samarqand city, the Registan Square. Sultan Ulugh Beg, who favored science & mathematics over warfare, established three madrasas (Islamic schools) initially, later followed by two more. In total, the three madrasas are seen in the photo: Registan, Ulugh Beg Madrasa, Tilya-Kori Madrasa & Sher-Dor Madrasa, with Tilya-Kori Madrasa being prominently featured in the foreground.

The Shah-i-Zinda is primarily a mausoleum and religious architectural masterpiece. The name Shah-i-Zinda means ‘the living king.’ It is said that the paternal cousin of Prophet Muhammad, Qutham ibn Abbas, was interred here. He arrived in Samarkand during the 7th century with the Arab conquest to propagate Islam. Popular legends claim that he was put to death for his beliefs, but he did not die. His head rests in a deep well (the garden of heaven) where he still resides.
The exquisitely adorned complex with blue stones is truly remarkable.

The combination of Ulugh Beg Madrasa, Tilya-Kori Madrasa, and Sher-Dor Madrasa forms the Registan Square. All three madrasas can be seen together in this photo.

A caravan of camels traveled 4,000 miles along the famous Silk Route. The ancient city of “Khiva” (known locally as ‘Hiva’) dates back 1,500 years. Here, we encounter a view of camels.

The Kalta Minar, also known as the Short Minaret, is located in the city of Khiva in Uzbekistan. It was built during the reign of Muhammad Amin Khan, who was the Khan (ruler) of the Khanate of Khiva from 1855 to 1864. Muhammad Amin Khan initiated the construction of the minaret, but it remained unfinished due to his untimely death. The vast expanse of the Kizil Kum Desert! On one end of the 300,000 square kilometer territory lie the cities of ‘Khiva’ and ‘Urgench,’ while on the other end lies the city of ‘Bukhara’.

When crossing the Kizil Kum Desert, we encounter astonishing dunes resembling giant bowls. Later, we come to know that sheep or goats were kept here.
